  1. Whats this

  2. You know.... you've all been heard..... "if you keep doing that, you'll go blind"! Well, it looks like I did it wayyyyy too much.  About a month ago, I was diagnosed with Intermediate/Advanced Dry AMD (Age Related Macular Degeneration). I'm told there is little that can be done to cure the problem and it will get worse, but it can be managed and the progression slowed. In short, I'm gonna' go blind. I'd been having an increasingly hard time focusing on items whether they be 2 inches away or 2 miles away. A variety of prescription glasses didn't really help as my vision degradation would quickly overtake the advantage of the static magnification. (As a result I get ridiculously bad headaches due to the stress on my eyes, and we're trying to address that as well.) I finally went to a specialist in Halifax who quickly arrived at the diagnosis. Why this was not detected earlier by the local eye doctor is a frustrating mystery. AMD effect the central vision core first then expands outward. When typing I find that I can focus about two inches to the left or right and be able to see fairly clearly. Everything in the center is blurry. I've been working on two knife projects lately which has proved to be an exercise in futility. I have to wear both reading glasses and a magnifying visor to do even rough shaping, not to mention the trouble doing the detail stuff. I'm also pretty sure there are details I miss, which is particularly upsetting. As one member here discovered, this all has created some rather embarrassing problems. I also have trouble seeing the spaghetti sauce smears on my daughter's face, so I end up not cleaning her properly..... that really SUCKS! As someone who's always had trouble expressing feelings verbally, I have retreated to a defensive cocoon and shut out my friends. Several members here have tried, repeatedly, to contact me over the past months and I have been unable to reply. For that.... I am VERY sorry! I'll try to come out occasionally and see the light (yes... pun intended). All the best, Peter

  9. Swordfishing in Gloucester Mass

Its not that big of a fishery anymore GJ, at least not on the East Coast. You'll still find privately owned boats with a crew of five or so that'll go for sword, but they also go after other species as well in order to make a living. And, there's not a whole lot of hiring going on these days. I guess my question to you is..... why sword fishing,...... in Massassachusetts?

From Cleverbot User: Will this be a good lobster season? Cleverbot: Yes it will be our little secret definitely. So are you a boy or a girl? User: Does it matter? Cleverbot: Yes. User: Why? Cleverbot: Because you told me. User: I told you nothing. Cleverbot: If you say so. User: I asked if it will be a good lobster season. Cleverbot: No you didn't. LIAR! :woot: :woot: Have fun!!
  12. Syncronized Peeing

The water utility in Edmonton, EPCOR, published the most incredible graph of water consumption last week. By now you’ve probably heard that up to 80% of Canadians were watching last Sunday’s gold medal Olympic hockey game. So I guess it stands to reason that they’d all go pee between periods. But still—the degree to which the water consumption matches with the key breaks in the hockey game is stunning.

No you silly... The blame should be properly placed on Greg Louganis.
  15. http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/774517--body-found-in-huntsville-is-missing-toronto-hiker?bn=1 ".....Just before dawn on Thursday morning, Richard Code disappeared into the darkness and lit out for the Ontario wilderness, bringing little more than a few supplies and the skills he had learned from watching Survivorman, a reality show about subsisting in the bush. The 41-year-old left behind a note, asking his landlady to call police if he failed to return by Sunday night. On Monday, she reported him missing and on Wednesday afternoon, Code’s body was found in a marshy, snowed-in area just north of Huntsville. Police say Code’s death is not considered suspicious at this time and his brother Stephen Code said OPP have informed him that the cause of death was hypothermia. It remains unclear if Code has ever received formal wilderness training but relatives say much of his knowledge came from watching Survivorman. The Discovery Channel program featured survival expert Les Stroud living in the wilderness without food, shelter or equipment and Code would often attempt similar trips, venturing into the Muskoka backwoods without food or tents."
