  1. Handgun thoughts

After much more research I'm now looking at a glock 17 gen 4. Mainly because they are so much cheaper than any other gun here and seem like a reliable platform. I like the Walther PPQ the HK VP9 and the Sig P320 but they are all at least 400 more than the glock. The M&P is 1000 here compared to 800 for the glock but the aftermarket parts available for the glock is what tipped the scales between those two. It's a 6 month process to get your first handgun in Australia so I still have a couple of months to wait. I'm also looking at getting a Hera triarii carbine conversion, it's the closest I will ever get to owning a semi auto rifle due to our gun laws.

Thanks for the info. Grip size is one of my concerns, I don't have huge hands. Is the beretta much bigger than the ? I do like the m&ps too. Problem for me is I can't even look at any of these guns unless I drive 6 hours down the road to the nearest gun shop that stocks them. So I basically have to make a decision based on research rather than experience.

Ok gun people's, bringing back an old thread here but...what are your thoughts on the beretta 92a1? Also looking at the Springfield mod 2 tactical.
  4. Hiking tents

This track has designated tent platforms so hammocks are a no go. I think it will be too cold for one anyway. Those Alps Mountaineering tents look not too bad, but unfortunately they are not sold in Australia. Not a big fan of teepee tents, this one which they call a backpacking tent weighs in at 7lbs which is a bit much for my liking. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/guide-gear-backpacking-teepee-tent?a=1677985 I ended up getting a Marmot Tungsten. I prefer the free standing tents as I have camped on so many surfaces where tent pegs are a pain to get into the ground. I liked the bent pole design that gives you more internal room as well. http://www.wildearth.com.au/buy/marmot-tungsten-2p-hiking-tent-blaze-sandstone/987509382 Thanks for the feed back!
  5. Hiking tents

Hi all, Just curious as to what hiking tents you guys use and recommend, or don't recommend for that matter. I'm going for a 6 day hike in a few weeks and am thinking I may need to upgrade. I currently have a cheap 2 man dome tent which has worked well for me so far however this trail is a bit more serious and recommends a 4 season tent. Any help would be good.
  6. EBOLA.

I just saw that. Apparently it has now been confirmed.
  7. EBOLA.

Any updates? This is my go to thread for Ebola related news.
  8. Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer

His intention was never to die. Yes he may have been ill prepared but like I said it's not a survival manual. It kind of reminds of a kid with a new toy that gets so excited that they neglect to read the instructions and just want to start playing with it then and there. Anyway, I guess to put it simply I admire his thirst for adventure. I also found an interesting article I found about how he died. http://www.newyorker.com/books/page-turner/how-chris-mccandless-died
  9. EBOLA.

To be honest I have not researched ebola much. In your opinion with all the stuff going on in the world right now where would you rank this?
  10. Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer

    Spot on Watcher.
  11. Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer

Into The Wild was never a survival manual, never was and never will be. It's about breaking free of the consumerist shit storm we call society. In his short life he experienced alot more 'adventure' than most people ever will. So many people I talk to would love to walk out of their boring 9 to 5 job, flick the bird to society and do whatever the hell they wanted to. Christopher McCandless did that and that is why I loved his story.
  12. EBOLA.

Why does ebola appear to not be spreading exponentially? I would of thought by the time 3000 people have been affected that number would have doubled (or more) in 2-21 days? Am I missing something or are they actually slowing the spread? We (Australia) have had a couple of suspected cases so far but none have tested positive.
