Swede 4 Posted September 6, 2007 This might be a good time to add my o2 to this topic. In the Stroud forum Les insisted he didnt want any gun or knife posts in his forum. It was than and is now my contention that finding food in a survival situation is primary to surviving.Honing shooting and hunting skills is a plus and could mean life or death. In his latest shows he actually "hunts" with a rifle. The gun he chose for the show was suspect to me right off the bat. There were many better choices that I would have made.I noticed he was not successful in "shooting" anything. Maybe if he would have spent more time honing those skills he would have been more successful. The same holds true with fishing. I have yet to see him catch one fish. Urban survival could also be who has the weapons. This scenario is probably more likely in todays urban settings.
Rockhounder 0 Posted September 6, 2007 Good point Swede, and it's the moderators responsibility to steer the topic in the right direction too. I think the crowd (family) we have here can discuss these matters in a responsible manner too. I certainly won't get on my NRA soapbox because it's not necessary or appropriate, everyone here so far has had the respect to not troll on the thread, and I don't think it'll be likely either. If you don't like guns, don't participate in the thread. Simple. With good moderating and respectful members, topics about firearms can be very informational. bestseller92 0 Posted September 7, 2007 I agree. I like Les, but his "no guns" policy on his board drove me away from it when it "restarted". It was absolutely his right to have that policy, and my right to eschew his board because of it. Having said that, I do like Les and "Survivorman", as I stated before. I don't think his choice of a .22 rifle was a bad one from a food gathering perspective, though, since I doubt seriously that he would've killed any large game even if he'd run across it. Swede 4 Posted September 7, 2007 Les Stroud is why I joined survival forums and why Im still involved in them. I think his shows are one of the best things on television right now and I can only respect and admire the man. He has his reasons for his stand on guns and its mostly his image he worries about. Kentucky Bob 0 Posted September 7, 2007 I guess he has the notion that he was going to get that hard-core survivalist mentallity started on his forum (probably afraid some of us were holed up in a bunker somewhere, waiting for WWIII :ninja: ). Oh well, HIS loss! I have a gun trade going on later! Going to the gun shop and trading my S&W 66 (14 yrs old) for a brand new S&W 642. I'll break the new one in this weekend!
