Recommend me a good GPS for $150 or less (please).

Recommended Posts

I think an used PDA with an integrated GPS is the cheapest GPS you could get...

Cons:

- battery doesn't last very long

- fragile

Pros:

- you can test different software on it and buy the best one

- more options in the gps software

- you can use the pda for other things: ebooks, videos, music etc

That is hard to say. Alot depends on what you are looking for. The higher end you go, the more it has. I ended up with a Magellan 500. For the price it had SO MUCH more than the Garmins in my price range. I would check out the Magellan line. They have alot more options.

Buy new: $460.43 $209.00    4 Used & new from $209.00

I bought mine a few years ago and I didnt give that much for it new. I dont go on vacation without it. Ask Bigblue I showed it to him and we used it as we traveled around Cape Breton.  It works very well but the instructions are a bit much.  gen165.gif

Nope, I'm going to use it for my "Survivorman Lite" trip, which has been put off till this December.

I'm now thinking of going with the Garmin Etrex Legend, which is $124 from Amazon, with free shipping.

Your going to love it.  One thing to remember.  To get a good signal you need open sky.  The less obstructions to block the satellite signals, the better.  Trees can be a problem even.  Also you might have problems in a narrow valley with steep hills to block the signal.

Amazon came through in a hurry: ordered it early Thursday morning, got it today (Sat.) with free shipping.

So far I like it.  Took me one minute to figure out how to set a waypoint and find my way back to it.

I don't have a digicam, but you can find pics of the interface at Amazon.

Anyone have a magellan explorist 500 LE? what do you think of it? what price range is it in?

I have it. I like it alot....navigation (on screen) took some getting used to. It came with the topo software. What I like about it compared to other brands at the same price. It came with color screen. Larger screen. It could take a SD card.   Over all, it is great. I use it for geocaching and bush time. I store all kinds of stuff on it. I paid under $250.00 for it, but I am not sure exactly. You can PM me if you have any other questions.
