KentuckyWoodsman 1 Posted December 30, 2017 That is cool! Man I have wanted a weather station for while now. We are back from the giant circle we made through the deep south. Drove across a lot of Kentucky and then through a lot of TN, South AR, then into Texas down to the Round Rock area non stop on Friday night and Saturday morning. We left there early Wednesday and drove down to Houston then East into LA on into New Orleans. Stayed the night there and drove from New Orleans to MS, to AL, to a small tip of GA then into East TN, then into SW VA back into Kentucky. Long trip, but got to spend Christmas with my daughter and Grandson and son in law and see some new places in the process.

nurkerool 0 Posted January 2, 2018 Happy New Year to one and all. It is 4:11 am here, Tess is still asleep...that slacker. Just put out the trash for pickup tomorrow, and it is -11F with a light wind, no cloud cover and what looks to be close to a full moon. Oh, Tess just wandered out of the bedroom and said, "Fire feels nice..." it's 88F here in the house...trying to avoid any water freeze-ups. We have about 6 inches of snow, and this week we are supposed to stay cold and get 2 to 6 more inches. Tess is back asleep....not sure she was fully awake. Thought I might call out some youtube survival type people that I've been watching who seem to know their stuff or it is educational watching them learn: Far North Bushcraft, David Pearson ReallyBigMonkey, Survival Lilly, and Mr. Chickadee. And one small tip that I heard and have been thinking about. If you carry a bow drill set with you...and maybe an antler or vertebrae bearing....why not carry a small steel roller bearing, or two? Might make friction fire a bit easier?
Swede 4 Posted January 3, 2018 Or carry a hand full of bic"s and a can of charcoal lighter Nuker. LOL Most of the old Les Stroud crowd and the early survivalists went with the unplanned trip to the wilds but today Ive joined the go prepared crowd. "please help me help them find their way back home" We had 21 below zero the other night and I had the hot water to the kitchen sink freeze up and I had to go to the basement and use the hair dryer I keep down there to thaw it out before it cracked the plastic pipe. We fixed it yesterday with and insulation tube that you put around the pipe. Works great now.
Swede 4 Posted January 7, 2018 Im considering shutting the forum down
Kentucky Bob 0 Posted January 7, 2018 Well, I guess I understand. I know I don't check in nearly enough anymore. You have a lot of work and expense to keep it running. I'd hate to see it go but I see your reasoning. Log on the fire for now.

Swede 4 Posted January 15, 2018 The data is low enough for a back up Doc thank you
Docwatmo 2 Posted January 15, 2018 Yippee!!, That backup is a full site backup, so it's easy to restore or move. My backup was just a data backup, which would restore all the posts, messages, etc, but the site would have had to be rebuilt before restoration. Big sigh of relief.
