A Small Modern Survival Kit For Primtiive Back-Up

Recommended Posts

I dont like wax-dipped matches. Either, like Weyfarere said, they mel, or they make the matches 'light-proof', which kind of defeats the purpose. I have yet to try Shellac, like Nessmuck. Thats next. And besides, primitive man didnt have wax to waterproof matches with. Or matches....... Wow, I just spoiled my own argument......owch.......

No argument there. These are sugesstions that have been around for a long time. Thats all.  Shellac works good. And the matches burn hotter.

So how are you coming along with your PSK now?

Good. Okay, dont make fun of me, but we watched the Nancy Drew movie today. She had something cool. It was a carabiner with a long rope and slide, so she could clip it onto something and almost rappel down. It was pretty cool. Youd need a load bearing carabiner and alot of strong paracord. A primtive equivalemnt could be made with a bowline and used simmilarly. So here is my updated PSK list:

Waterproof Matches

Garbasge Bags

Whistle

FAK

Fishing Line + Needle + Thread + Safety Pins + Sinkers

Lead Pencil

Paper

20 Ft. Cord

Pocketknife

Button Compass

Fire Starter

Hows That?

Great PSK, the only thing I would ad right off the top of my head would be water collection items. (Condom or gerber milk bags)

Personally I dont carry a pencil or paper, ever. But a water collecting should be added, otherwise, its a great kit.
