Doe with Two Fawns

Recommended Posts

I was out with the family today when we surprised a doe with two fawns.  Given we were hiking in a section of woods bordering the Chicago city limits, they just looked at us with a South Sider's attitude of "whadda you doin' here".  It is still surprising to encounter two young deer at this point in the year.  Usually there is only one with a doe given all the coyotes around here.

I was excited as my daughter was really excited on seeing the "mommy with the two babies".   It's not like we saw Bigfoot, but it was fun nonetheless.

She loves being outdoors.  While she enjoys most animals, she really gets mad when we don't see ducks.  Fortunately, there are several native mallards that hang out in bends along the river all year long so we usually see them.  But if we hike along one of the more inland trails, I hear about it all the way home.  We could have seen Martians and she will complain about missing the ducks.  :)
