What Kind of Turtle is This Bruiser

Recommended Posts

Definitely a snapping turtle.  On the bad side they are apex predators of ponds.  On the good side they are delicious.

Well, Swede...if that snapping turtle eats up all your fish, you can always call Adi's friend The Turtle Man...

Ive caught one turtle hand fishing. One of the other guys found him and had his hand on the turtles back but he was afraid to reach for his tail. What Adis friend isnt saying is turtles have no reverse. If you notice their legs are bent for forward movement. They can turn around but not back up. Soooo all you have to do is hold your hand on their back and wait for them to move. That way you know what end the head is on so you reach and feel for the tail.

We used to hand fish pot holes of water like that for carp that got caught out by a flood and trapped in what are called "borrow pits" These pot holes of water are left over from pushing up dirt to build a levee along a river. There also FULL of crawdads but Ive never been bitten by one.

That guy is a bonifide red neck.

The most common name for people that catch snappers underwater by hand is 'Stumpy'.
