So, What Do You Want for Christmas?

Recommended Posts

I just want to be able to spend time with the people I love best in the world.

I honestly can't think of a single thing that I really need or want.  Santa will just have to surprise me!  ;)

I would like to be alive to attend [glow=red,2,300]CAMPFIRE CHRISTMAS 2006[/glow]

Let the word go forth to all who will see my invation to a Christmas get together right here this Christmas Eve.

We will exchange our affirmation of love and friendship.

The best gift of all.

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder

You get your fill to eat, but always keep that hunger

May you never take one single breath for granted

God forbid love ever leave you empty handed

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean

Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens

Promise me that you'll give fate a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance, I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance

Never settle for the path of least resistance

Living might mean taking chances, but they're worth taking

Loving might be a mistake but it's worth making

Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter

When you come close to selling out, reconsider

Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance (time is a wheel in constant motion always)

I hope you dance (rolling us along)

I hope you dance (tell me who wants to look back on their youth and wonder)

I hope you dance (where those years have gone)

Guest taken by the wind...

~ That sounds great Swede! I'm actually Off this Christmas eve! (I totally have to work Christmas day though.)

Oh well, I'd much rather be working Christmas day, than to have a sick baby in the hospital on Christmas day...

Life is 90% attitude!  :peace:

Unca Walt - can you give me a close-up of any writing or numbers or stamped insignia, likely on  blade near the hilt? especially that "antique" one.

Unca Walt - The reason i asked for additional pics, is that my Unca has a collection of japanese swords and is something of a buff on the subject. If given any inscriptions, etc, he can tell you a lot about your swords.

Those are gorgeous ones, especially for the price!!!

When I gits my grubs onnem, I will be ALL OVER YOU for data.

This is a closeup of one of the swords I am bidding on -- the auction closes in 21 hours, 20 minutes...

Dunno what the numbers represent...

Walt - On both swords, especially the first one, the numbers seem to be stamped into a plate or sleeve that is then afixed (welded?) onto the racosso of the blade.

Am I seeing things?

I just noticed...

If you look to the left of the "77702" sheathing, you can see those fabulous squiggles which represent forty thousand layers of metal...

See 'em?

Bigblue:  that sheathing has a name.  At the moment, I caint think of it.

But yes, you are looking at another, overlaying piece of metal.

Yeh, that's what we're looking for...those inscriptions on the tang. You need to disassemble the sword to find these. Year, month, day, smith, polisher, and stamp of the master bladesmith or factory. There may be other info stamped there as well.

From what I have read on these, some of the more recent, factory made swords will have an acid-etched hamon instead of a nicer "real" hamon. There are ways to tell the diference, but I don't know how.

Boy, oh boy, Unca, you get one of these pig stickers, there gonna be some mighty scared boars running 'round.

What do I want for christmas?

A car (no money)

A new gun (kid still too young in the house)

A new tent (wife said my current tent is guaranteed for life so no luck there)

Well I guess I would have to say, I want a Sherpa!!! The heck with all this ultra light packing!!!!!

Bigblue,

Regarding the tang inscriptions... yeah, I knew about that.  But I am not sure I really want to disassemble the dang sword...

Not sure I would know how to get it together again!

This could be a real problem with my curiousity!!

Regarding the hamon (that is the wavy lines caused by the different levels of steel).  You can tell INSTANTLY with just a glance.  The fake silliness put on those knock-off katanas is painfully obvious even to the uninitiated.  About the equivalent of being able to tell a cap-pistol from a Sig-Sauer!
