A Picnic & A Hike With The Little One

Recommended Posts

It was really nice out today so I took Alayna for a picnic and a hike.

Our load-out for the day.

An eclectic assortment of gear.

These were the knives on hand. The orange handled CRK&T stayed in the console where I keep it, I just had it out looking at it so included it in the shot.

Picnic before the hike, Alayna attacked the block of cheese right off. She cut one piece for me, then one piece for her…notice I got the smaller piece lol.

Alayna noting how much alike our knives are

Just kicking back and enjoying the day out, and pointing at shapes in the clouds

Hmmm, this cheese needs to be in smaller pieces…

Custom, D2 steel, desert ironwood handle, and mosaic pins…Alayna’s first knife sure blows my first one out of the water…

Dessert time, and time to goof off.

Time to head out, what direction are we going?

Found some future Blackberries.

She spotted some wild onions.

I swear that girl seldom has one foot on the ground much less two…

Found an odd track I can’t quite make out.

And lots of ant hills…though oddly enough none invaded our picnic.

It seemed too soon that the sun was going down, and it was time to go. Then we stopped for a milkshake on the way home and found a Luna moth. I’m not sure which one of us had more fun, but we definitely have to do this again soon.

Looks like the two of you had a great time, Mist!  She'll treasure these memories someday, guaranteed!

That track looks canine to me, judging by the pad shape and what looks like the toenail marks at the points of the toes.

Yup canine track. Wild or domestic is the question.

Luna Moth the largest moth in north America. Beautiful bug great find.

Thanks guys, yeah we had a blast. First real (whole) day off I've taken in almost two years.

The track is confusing to me because it looks canine but not...it looks like there are more than four toes and yet doesn't look like a print on a print. I wish I could have found a few more, it was odd that I couldn't.

mistwalker, these are wonderful pics!  Alayna is so sweet!  I love how she cut up the cheese with her very own knife.  Such a big girl now.

Thanks Holly, yeah she has been helping me in the kitchen for nearly a year so she is getting better at handling a knife. I don't let her carry it on her own yet, I just let her use it whenever the need comes up. She really is growing up fast.
