Emergency whistles (blow out yer brainz)

I've been upgrading my gear and I have a question on emergency whistles. What is a more important feature, volume, pitch or a combination?

I was playing with an improvised whistle made out a strip of soda can. Yes, I was that busy yesterday. Ill get some pictures today.

what do you mean?

The cap off of a beer bottle makes a great whistle.  An acorn cap does as well.
