Here is my basic gear for the trip. Wide brimmed hat, Maxpedition Merlin which folds down into a pouch about the size of a football. Water bladder from the Camel Bak which will fit into a slot on the Merlin. A Survival Resources Aqua Pouch a two Platypus water bottles. Delorme GPS, Silva compass, Walkie talkies as my cellphone will be useless. Spare batteries, small daypack, AMK survival kit.

Doc Allen's Versa-tool.

Great preparations, Muddy.

~ Where's your SPF 40 waterproof sun block and your loin cloth?

All packed. I have SPF 30and a long shirt. I'll pick up something stronger once I get there.

~ You might better pack a short sleeved shirt, and maybe a few Tank tops and some shorts.

Done. I swapped out my jeans for a pair of cargo pants this morning. Jeans are unpleasant outside here in September, they'd be just miserable there.

The first person we met was Angry Taxi Driver. "GET IN DA TAXI!" Angry Taxi Driver reminded me of Richard Roundtree, the actor who played John Shaft back in the 70's. He also required subtitles to understand.

In St. Thomas, they drive on the left side of the road. Angry Taxi Driver drives like my dad. We almost ended riding in backseat of the car in from of us.

Useful travel tip. Surveyors tape tied to your bag. That makes it easier to spot in the back of the van at one in morning or when Angry taxi driver is 'unloading'. "Get out of da van!"

View from the pool area and lunch. Now, St. Thomas is a vacation destination for 10 months out of the year. It is the off season right now because it's hurricane season. I was looking for Caribbean food which can be found but you have seek it out. And after being up for almost 27 hours I was just happy to get hot food.

Doc Allen's Versa-tool made through airport security. Important tip though, just throw it in the change bucket with your keys, the TSA agents got crabby when they saw it in my carry-on through the X-Ray but couldn't figure out what it was. Platypus and Aqua-pouch all useful for travel. The yellow tint in the water bottles was from Iodine that I've treated my water with. It stain everything. The water here was fine to drink. Walkies  because cellphone coverage is goofy here. I heard some weird conversations one night.

It was hot during the day but at night I shut off the AC and slept with the patio door open. Every morning this damn rooster would show up and start crowing. Mmmm, zesty jerked rooster.

The hotel concierge took us down to the grocery store. There's no walking into town from this place. You either take a cab, rent a car or stay put.
