From the old days before this forum was Les Strouds forum where we all met and later started this web site after Les closed his. We met a fine young man from Ontario Canada who called himself Trooper Max (Max Moskal) later we shortened it to Trooper. He was 100% a Les Stroud fan and a dedicated member in Lesses forum so we made him one of the administrators. Les put on a music festival that Max wanted to go to. He was a teenager then so we took up a collection to send him to the festival. He met Les and took pictures with Max. That was several years ago.

While watching the new Les and his son show I noticed Max Moskal in the credit list. I contacted Max and he told me Les had hired him as a camera operator. You can find him on face book.  Congratulations Max Moskal.

(Years ago, Trooper Max wanted to be a ground squirrel in my story.  :)  because in one of Survivor Man's shows Les had eaten a ground squirrel and Trooper's signature was Les's comical quote "mmmmm ground squirrel". and He always thought it was funny.

~ Getting comfortable within her favorite tree, as the sun began to rise, the Owl glanced down. She had spotted something on the forest floor below. Her keen sense of movement honed in on the target with pin-point accuracy. Even though she was full from a successful hunt, her body was charged with intent...

She couldn't help it if her attention was out of her hands, but her actions were always under her control. To act now would be a waste of valuable energy, for she immediately recognized  the familiar scurrying of Trooper, the busy Ground Squirrel.

Trooper Max was always on the move. He covered his territory every day several times, picking up acorns, nuts, or whatever, and running them here and there. Some he would bury, some he would take back to his hole in the ground. Over and over again he ran. He never seemed to stop, or to rest, unless it was to talk to others about being ready (always being ready)... Ready for a long Winter, or for a dry Summer, or for a bad storm. Digging out new holes and tunnels, and planning his escape route from foxes, or from bobcats, or from floods, or Hawks.

"Always keep one eye on the path ahead, one eye on the path behind, and both eyes on the sky... when you're a Ground Squirrel, trouble can come from any direction." (This was his favorite saying.)

Trooper didn't miss the Owl perched yards above the earth that he knew like the back of his paw. He knew the Owl, and she had never seen him as a meal. The Owl preferred rats, and this was okay with Trooper because they were his direct competition. Out here, in the world of the earth diggers, he liked that the Owl made his life easier.

The Owl admired the Ground Squirrel because he wasn't destructive like so many of the rats were. He never attacked smaller helpless animals, and most importantly, he never stole eggs from nests. Plus, in the grand scheme of things, ground squirrels were much more fun to watch. And, after all, the Owl was a watcher.

The Owl knew that she could always count on Trooper to alert her to any changes in his world. Nobody knew the Earth like he did. And that is how the animals in, and around, and above the pond survived...

Some knew the Earth,

some knew the Water,

and some, like herself, knew the Sky.

There was one, however, who knew them all...

Great to hear that Max is working with Les!  Max had his own survival website for quite a while, I don't know if it's still up or what the name is now.
