Birds in 2015

Recommended Posts

I am going to start a listing of the various birds I see and identify through out the year.

Today:

Dark-eyed junco

Starling

Weaver wren (commonly called a house sparrow)

Downy woodpecker - male and female

Hairy woodpecker - female

Red bellied woodpecker - female

- at one point today there were downy (male), hairy and red bellied wood peckers taking turns at the suet block

Mourning dove

Blue Jay

Cooper's Hawk (first time I have seen one of these - it was trying to catch the smaller birds at my feeders earlier today)

I've seen about 50 species so far this year. Decided to skip the list this year. I find that you get to concentrated on adding another species that you don't enjoy spending time outside.

Saw a brown headed cowbird this morning at my feeder. They are supposed to have migrated farther south by now.

On the 29th, saw a bunch of wild turkeys heading out to forage in a cornfield.

That makes the count for this year 19.

I'll be glad to see the turkeys again, and hear the red winged black birds. In other words wishing for Spring.  :)
