2016 bird list

This year I would like to keep a list of all the birds seen by everyone on the forums. 

Let's include the date and state of the sighting( other notes would be great)

Please try to avoid double posting species

 

I'll start.

 

1. Red tail hawk (January 1, 2016 Wisconsin)

2. Snow bunting (January 1, 2016 Wisconsin)

3. American crow ( January 1, 2016 Wisconsin)

4. Bald Eagle ( January 1, 2016 Wisconsin)

Geese all the time Canadians, snow, and some farm geese that been in the area for years along with several species of ducks ( illinois)

32 - ring necked pheasant (Jan 8 - crossing the road by my house) 3 roosters. First I have seen in this area in about 2 years.

Awesome.  I would be great if you could figure out what specific species they are.

I agree with greene, Kim.  Could you get a picture of the fowl in question?  In your area, there are all kinds of different ducks and gulls. I think that Canadian geese are already on the list.

 

This is a pretty good site that might help: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/search/

 

I use their smart phone app.  It picks up your location, you answer a few questions and most of the time, the bird you are trying to identify is near the top of the list. It also has recordings of their various calls, which also helps identify the suspect.

Not sure why these guys are still hanging around in Iowa this time of the year...
